TRACKLAYING - PANDROL FASTCLIP
Installation with Handtools

All handtools are designed to work on third rail and limited access applications. There are two installation tools for the FASTCLIP system:

Clip Installer

Driving the clip forward from the parked position:

  1. Locate the jaws over the front of the shoulder
  2. Pull on the handle until refusal. The fully driven position permits the outer limbs of the clip to touch the rear of the post insulator, as shown, or with up to 3mm of clearance at this position.

The installation tool will drive clips from the fully extracted position (clip and toe insulator totally removed from the shoulder) to the driven position in one action.

Sleeper Lifter

The scissors action frame extends and locates when lowered over the shoulder top, locking into the shoulder feature as shown.

  1. Locate on the rail head
  2. Push forward on the handle to lift a low sleeper
  3. Collapsing the tool releases it from the rail head
  4. Lift both ends of the sleeper together

Using FASTCLIP tools together

During manual track installations a five-man gang is used to install clips. Each gang is equipped with a set of FASTCLIP handtools. Each set consists of:

  • 2   Sleeper Lifting Tools
  • 3   Installation Tools

Where clip-driving machines are not suited to track installation projects, FASTCLIP can be installed quickly and efficiently using handtools, when adopting the following technique:

  1. Ensure both rails have been threaded correctly and the sleepers are square
  2. Five men are required for the installation
  3. Sleeper lifters are fitted to outer shoulders and both ends of the sleeper are lifted together by two men
  4. The two inner (gauge side) clips are installed by a third man
  5. Sleeper lifters can be removed once both inner clips are driven
  6. This group proceeds to the next sleeper
  7. Two men follow close behind installing the outer (field side) clips
