Customer Challenge

The Belgrade Center railway station, colloquially known as Prokop, is the new central railway station in Belgrade, the capital of Serbia. Serbian Railways approached Pandrol to support with the track infrastructure on the new Belgrade Center Station development. Noise and vibration attenuation was a key requirement for the railway operator.

Pandrol Solution

Pandrol proposed a suite of fastening solutions to meet the requirements of different areas of the track.

The Vanguard fastening system was proposed for use within the station building. Pandrol Vanguard is a unique rail fastening system with very low vertical dynamic stiffness that leads to high levels of vibration isolation.

The significant reduction of vibration and secondary noise makes it ideal for applications in the most sensitive areas to these environmental concerns. The Vanguard was used within booted block track application, delivering exceptional vibration attenuation at a much lower cost than floating slab track.

Pandrol VIPA SP was proposed for the transition areas for a level crossing adjacent to the station. VIPA SP is a resilient track support system that has been developed to attenuate the wheel/rail contact induced vibrations that are transferred from the rail to the supporting structure. The concept is based on providing support through a two layer resilient pad system. The high level of adjustment made the VIPA SP system an ideal product for use in this transition area.
