Rail Fastenings Systems

Panguard

Panguard is the ideal fastening system when the transmission of vibration and noise from track to nearby buildings needs to be reduced. It achieves this by providing exceptionally low vertical stiffness and therefore high levels of vibration isolation between the rail and the slab or tie. At the same time, it does not compromise the control of lateral rail head movement and dynamic track gauge.

As it provides effective vibration isolation when used on plain slab track, Panguard can be retrofitted to many existing tracks where noise and vibration need to be addressed. In addition, it can provide significant cost savings when used in new tunnel projects, as it can be fitted in tunnels of smaller diameter than alternative systems.

Technical Features

  • Unlike conventional fastening systems, Panguard supports the rail by the web of the rail rather than underneath the rail foot. This means that exceptionally low vertical stiffness can be achieved, without compromising the control of lateral rail head movement and dynamic track gauge
  • Panguard can be supplied in a variety of configurations, including different stiffness levels, anchor types and anchor positions
  • Lateral and vertical adjustments can be made to the position of the rail. Standard configurations with anchor bolts typically allow +/-20 mm of lateral adjustment per rail and a 30 mm range of vertical adjustment
  • Compared to many other low-stiffness fastening systems, Panguard has a low rail position relative to the top of the track slab or tie
  • Natural frequency of approximately 20-25 Hz
