Geometry measurement

Track geometry measurement equipment helps your team detect defects before they escalate and incur surprise costs. From trolleys to gauges, Pandrol's geometrical testing range measures gauge, alignment, twist and cant, so you can plan maintenance with confidence and keep track performing to standard.

What are Geometry measurement products and how do they work?

Track geometry measurement equipment inspects the full track to assess alignment and flag deviations that could affect safety, ride quality, and long-term infrastructure integrity. The process of track geometry measurement tests parameters such as gauge, alignment, twist and cant against network standards. Continuous measurement supports proactive maintenance planning and informed asset management, while identifying undulatory wear on the rail head shows where grinding is needed to prevent further deterioration. Pandrol rail geometry trolley provides a live data feed via control panel, which feeds into a full report for track teams and infrastructure managers, giving an objective picture of track condition that supports predictive maintenance and forecasting.

Speak to our rail experts
  • Detect track geometry defects before they lead to accelerated rail and track deterioration

  • Conduct rail gauge measurement, and assess cant, alignment, twist, top and undulatory wear along the line

  • Plan maintenance with targeted, data-driven interventions instead of generic schedules

Product benefits

  • Catch defects early

Continuous measurement flags gauge, alignment and twist issues before they accelerate rail wear.

  • Smarter maintenance planning

Data-driven insights let you target interventions precisely, reducing unnecessary track possessions and cost.

  • Better ride quality

Keeping geometry within tolerance protects ride comfort and extends asset life across your network.

Overview

The GeoVizio-TR Smart is a walk-behind on-track trolley that records gauge, cant, twist, distance and GPS position as it moves along the line. Designed for quick assembly on site without tools, it gives live readings as you go, so track teams can identify problems in the geometry straight away and plan the right response without waiting for a full survey report.

Overview

The Inspector’s Gauge (P5010) is a lightweight, multipurpose track gauge that delivers accurate and repeatable measurements on plain line and in areas of switch and crossing. It can be used to measure track gauge, flangeway and check gauge (displayed mechanically), while super-elevation measurements are shown electronically. Constructed from hard-wearing GRP and nylon, the gauge is electrically non-conductive and suitable for 3rd and 4th rail electrification areas. It is available in imperial and metric versions for multiple track widths and can be supplied with alternative wheel profiles.

Overview

The P-Way Gauge (P5000) is a reliable, accurate track gauge suitable for use in all aspects of rail engineering to measure track gauge and super-elevation. Constructed from hard-wearing glass-reinforced plastic (GRP), the P-Way Gauge is lightweight and electrically non-conductive, making it suitable for use in areas of 3rd and 4th rail electrification. Track gauge measurements are shown on an easy-to-read mechanical scale, while super-elevation readings are displayed digitally. All measurements are displayed on the usable end of the gauge, ensuring improved repeatability and minimising the risk of user error.

Overview

The Switch and Crossing Confirmation Gauge (P4670) has been designed to carry out dimensional checks within the moveable part of a switch unit. The gauge measures free-wheel clearance, free-wheel passage and the switch rail wear profile. Made of electrically non-conductive GRP and nylon, the gauge does not interfere with signalling circuits and is suitable for 3rd and 4th rail electrification areas. It is available in imperial and metric versions for multiple track widths and can be supplied with alternative wheel profiles.
