Aluminothermic welding
Pandrol's aluminothermic welding products provide everything needed to join and repair rail safely, from various welding processes to manual and semi-automatic welding related equipment and digital tools such as i+connect. Our aluminothermic welding products and solutions are built on decades of welding expertise trusted by rail networks worldwide.
Aluminothermic welding
Aluminothermic welding uses a precise exothermic reaction to produce molten steel, which is cast into a mould around a rail gap to form a permanent joint. The aluminothermic welding process is a well-known method for joining and maintaining all types of rail, making it one of the most efficient ways to maintain service. At Pandrol, we’ve built more than a century of welding experience, developing rail joint welding methods for nearly every rail profile, from Vignole and grooved rail to crane and special rail types. Our depth of expertise extends to rail welding equipment too: equipment for aligning rail, preheaters, shearing equipment, ignition systems and digital tools designed to make every weld safer, faster and more consistent.

Did you know?
Pandrol has manufactured so many rail fastenings over its history that if you lined them all up, you would have enough to build a railroad track that stretches all the way from the Earth to the Moon (and we are currently working on the return trip!).
