Balise beams

Balise beams are a piece of device that mounts balises, transponders and beacons directly to the track, positioning each device accurately without drilling or ballast disruption. Built on Pandrol’s many years of rail experience, our balise beams install in minutes and need no periodic maintenance, whatever the climate.

What are Balise beams products and how do they work?

Balise beams mounts balises, transponders and beacons directly to the track, positioning each device accurately without drilling or ballast disruption. Balise beams work with the balises used in ETCS and ERTMS train control systems, and fit any combination of sleeper types, or directly to the rail foot. Our balise beam is compatible with balises from Siemens, Alstom, Bombardier and Hitachi, among others. The non-conductive design will not interfere with your signalling systems, and shock and vibration resistance to EN50125-3 standard keeps performance steady across demanding climates, year after year, with no periodic maintenance required.

Overview

The Clamp Beam fits between sleepers on ballasted or slab track, clamping to the feet of the running rails rather than sitting over the sleeper. Its glass reinforced plastic beam and stainless steel clamp components adapt to a wide range of track formations, sleeper types and rail foot fixings. Installation, repositioning or removal typically takes under 10 minutes per balise, using hand tools alone.

Overview

The On-Sleeper Beam mounts over the sleeper onto your existing rail fastening, so there's no need to drill into concrete sleepers. Its glass reinforced plastic beam and stainless steel yokes hold it securely, and positioning the balise over the sleeper keeps it compatible with automatic track tamping machinery. Installation, repositioning or removal typically takes under two minutes per balise, with no resin curing time to wait for.

Overview

The Balise Protection Device (BPD) is a add-on that shields an already-mounted balise from ice impact damage. It's lightweight, mounted on the sleeper using two screw anchors, and tested to withstand multiple ice impacts at line speeds up to 300km/hr. Its narrow profile keeps it compatible with automatic track tamping machinery, and its anti-trip, non-slip surface adds a safety benefit for track workers.

Overview

Built to carry speed restriction signs for emergency or temporary line speed changes, Signboard Supports are available in 2 m, 1.2 m and 1 m (third rail) variants. Fitting a wide range of rail profiles, including bullhead, they need no ballast penetration, so there's no need to scan for buried services first. Lockable once installed, they can be paired with a stabiliser spar for extra rigidity in exposed locations.
