Ultrasonic rail testing
Pandrol's ultrasonic testing equipment scans rail and welds for internal flaws without disrupting track use. Backed by NDT-certified inspectors with over 30 years of ultrasonic rail inspection experience, our range includes a lightweight walking stick for weld testing and a walk-behind trolley for full rail inspection.
What are Ultrasonic rail testing products and how do they work?
Ultrasonic rail testing uses high-frequency sound waves to scan rail and welds for internal flaws, without disrupting your track. It's also known as non-destructive testing (NDT), and our NDT-certified inspectors bring more than 30 years of experience to every inspection. Our i+detect walking stick is built mainly for ultrasonic weld testing, inspecting the head, web, and foot of every weld to confirm it meets your network's specification. For full rail coverage, our SonicVizio-TR-S walk-behind trolley scans both rails in a single pass. Both tools run Pandrol's SonicView software, so your team can find and analyse defects with confidence.

Product benefits
Easy to use
Pandrol's SonicView software gives every operator, from beginner to expert, an intuitive interface for finding and analysing defects. Automatic defect detection and clear A-Scan and B-Scan displays mean your team can identify issues quickly, without specialist ultrasonic training.
Reduce costs
Catch track defects earlier and manage them more efficiently, cutting long-term repair and replacement costs. Fewer breakages mean fewer losses and lower costs to keep your rail network performing well.
Future-proof your track
Detect faults early enough to repair rather than replace, extending the life of your rail assets. As traffic increases and inspection windows shrink, ultrasonic testing keeps pace without compromising safety.
Overview
SonicVizio-TR-S is Pandrol's walk-behind trolley for full rail flaw detection, scanning both rails in a single pass across 20 detection angles. Twice as efficient as single-rail systems, it also runs SonicView software for automatic defect detection and office-based analysis. Its retractable design folds down to 1,000 mm wide, making it easy to transport in a standard utility vehicle.

Overview
i+detect (SonicVizio-WS-S) is Pandrol's lightweight, handheld ultrasonic testing tool, weighing just 5 kg and built mainly for weld inspection. It runs on Pandrol's SonicView software, which automatically detects and lists defects and uses built-in GNSS to localise each one for office-based analysis. Its retractable, carbon-fibre design makes it easy to carry and use both on and off track.

Did you know?
There are more Pandrol clips in service than there are people in Europe. Over three-times the amount to be precise. We have 3 billion clips in use and Europe has a population of around 750 million.
