Rail and Sleeper Handling

Pandrol distributes a variety of excavator-mounted tools from Rosenqvist to streamline track construction, from simple rail tongs through to large pieces of machinery designed for sleeper handling.

What are Rail and Sleeper Handling products and how do they work?

This range of rail and sleeper handling equipment attaches to excavators and road-rail vehicles, giving crews a mechanised alternative to manual handling. It spans rail tongs through to Sleeper Layers, Sleeper Replacers and Sleeper Grabbers, each designed and manufactured by Rosenqvist Rail in Sweden. Hydraulic systems power sleeper laying equipment such as the SL400 to SL850, placing between four and eight sleepers at a time, while the SB40 and SB60 Sleeper Replacers dig out, remove and replace sleepers in a single pass. Every tool suits standard track gauges and sleeper types, keeping workers off track and away from moving loads.

Overview

The Sleeper Grabber SG60 handles both sleepers and rail in a single set-up, based on the proven design of our Sleeper Replacer SB60. Interchangeable grab arms accommodate different sleeper types, and its secure grip reduces the risk of damage during handling, supporting sleeper reuse. It runs from one double-acting hydraulics outlet, keeping workers' hands clear of the grip.

Overview

The carrier-mounted Sleeper Layer range spans five models, from the SL400 to the SL850, placing between four and eight sleepers at once. A telescopic frame keeps each attachment compact, while a patented linkage system holds the centre of gravity steady during spreading. A precision gauging hydraulic system sets sleeper spacing accurately, and no electricity is needed on the carrier machine.

Overview

The SB40 and SB60 Sleeper Replacers dig out, remove and replace sleepers using a single attachment, compatible with most sleeper types across a range of track gauges. The SB60 adds tilt and rotation, so sleepers can be changed from the middle or side of the track. The lighter SB40 suits smaller carrier machines weighing 8 to 12 tonnes. Both can be paired with the Auto Master for automatic clipping operations – a proven and efficient way to replace sleepers on track.

Overview

The Auto Master installs clips automatically at the press of a button, controlled from the cab of the carrier machine. It clips approximately 20 to 30 sleepers an hour and adjusts to accommodate Fastclip FC and FE assemblies. Fitting to the Sleeper Replacer SB40 or SB60, it removes the need for six to eight people on track, improving site safety.

Overview

Rail Tongs are used to install and maintain continuous welded rail, clipping automatically onto the rail to reduce the risk of damage. Three models are available: the RG2500, with an integrated towing support; the RG3000, with two towing supports and AREMA compliance; and the RG4800, whose four-roller grip design helps protect rail sections during handling. All are made from high-tensile Swedish steel for a lightweight, portable tool.

Overview

Pandrol offer three types of Track Jacks: hydraulic, mechanical and obstructionless versions. Each is designed for ease of use, maximum operator safety and reliable performance in all working conditions.

Did you know?

There are more Pandrol clips in service than there are people in Europe. Over three-times the amount to be precise. We have 3 billion clips in use and Europe has a population of around 750 million.
