“We deliver an unrivalled customer experience by maximising rail infrastructure availability, safety and sustainable lifetime value.” – The Pandrol Promise.
With Pandrol’s place at the forefront of the Railway Infrastructure market, it is our ambition to become a global leader in CO₂ and greenhouse gas emission (GhG) reduction.
Across the Delachaux Group, we have been measuring our Scopes 1 and 2 GhG emissions annually, along with Scope 3 in 2019. This, together with analysing our products’ carbon footprint, has allowed us to work on and improve our environmental impact across the whole R&D and manufacturing process, from product design, to supply chain, production, and transportation, all the way to installation & application.
Our targets
We started measuring our GHG emissions, including Scope 3 in 2019. In order to guide our efforts, we’ve implemented two internal targets:
In every product we investigate the possibility of increasing our usage of recycled material.
As a leading provider of Sustainable Resilient Systems (SRS) based on recycled rubber technology, we provide solutions for rail networks across the globe for noise & vibration control and embedded rail systems, offering the lowest CO2 footprint in the market.
To meet our customers’ expectations, and also guide our product carbon footprint improvements, we are working on increasing the coverage of our product portfolio with Environmental Product Declarations (EPD). This standardised approach allows us to quantify the environmental impact of our products thanks to our technical and industrial choices.
To onboard our employees in our sustainability journey we are offering some e-Learning on sustainability background and effects and how we must contribute as an industrial actor. We also run Climate Fresks in our organization and specific training, teaching our employees how they can make a difference both at work and at home.
In order to reduce the carbon footprint of our operations, we work on both reducing our energy consumption and converting to green energy sources.
Our main actions are to continue updating our manufacturing equipment, working on their efficiency to reduce their consumptions, implementing less carbon emitting solutions, and continuously increasing our usage of renewables, through solar panels in our sites or certificates of green electricity.
Supply chain and suppliers Purchases of raw materials or semi-finished products are the largest part of Scope 3 in terms of greenhouse gas emissions, so we need to engage our supply chain-related environmental impact.
In 2021, a responsible supplier charter was drawn up by Pandrol France and was extended to other entities in 2023. This charter not only incorporates environmental issues but also social, societal and ethical aspects.
In paralel, we engaged with main suppliers the review of their decarbonisation commitments, targets and review.
“Sustainability is a big priority for Pandrol, and we are committed to reducing our footprint and creating a more sustainable future. We are doing this through our eco-design products, adjusting our manufacturing processes, engaging our supply chain, and incorporating sustainability as our new way of life.
We know that our success will only be possible by the collective buy in and empowerment of our people. Hence, we have rolled out training for our teams and sustainability ambassadors, to engage them and give everyone the power to drive and implement our strategy.”
