Nabla

Initially developed by Pandrol's fastenings team in Douai, France for high speed line applications, Pandrol Nabla has become the standard rail fastening system for metro and tramway networks, conventional and high-speed lines in France. Nabla systems are available for ballasted track (Nabla Evolution) and for slab tracks (Nabla Tram).

What are Nabla products and how do they work?

Nabla is a rail fastening system with direct fastening. An anchor screw tightens to contact, distributing clamping force evenly and avoiding rail roll. Adjustable insulators allow fine gauge tuning (1.25 mm step), extending component life. The Nabla rail fastening systems suit slab track (Nabla Tram) and sleepers (Nabla Evolution).

  • Electrically insulated rail fastening: insulation above 10 kΩ according to EN13146-5:2012.

  • Lateral force absorption: glass-reinforced construction for high mechanical strength.

  • High clamping force: consistent pressure along the rail from a contact-tightened anchor screw, particularly convenient for sharp curves.

Product benefits

  • Durability

Glass-reinforced material delivers high mechanical strength and lateral force absorption, built to last for years.

  • Versatility

Available for grooved or vignole rails, in formats for both ballasted and slab track.

  • Simple installation

Quick and straightforward to install, saving time, labour and cost without compromising on performance.

Overview

Nabla Evolution, for sleepers, is a direct fastening system built for tight radius curves, where it maintains track gauge and extends the working life of assembly components. Tightened to contact, the anchor screw applies consistent clamping force across a wide torque range, while adjustable insulators allow fine gauge tuning in 1.25mm increments. It suits ballasted and slab track, offers electrical insulation above 10 kΩ according to EN13146-5:2012, and has a proven record spanning several decades.

Overview

The Nabla Tram, for slab tracks, rail fastening system is a cost-effective fastening system built for trams and light rail. It combines a lightweight composite baseplate with Nabla Evolution components and is designed for insertion into fresh concrete using either top-down or bottom-up construction methods. An air evacuation system of vents and channels prevents trapped air and water, keeping the concrete fill solid under the rail seat and the track running smoothly for its full lifespan.

Strengthening City Connections with High-Performance Tram Infrastructure

RATP / 2016

The extension of the T3 orbital tramway line in Paris is a 200 million Euro project to accelerate the regeneration of the north-west of the city. Known as T3b, it is a 2.7-mile segment with eight new stations and crosses the 18th and 17th arrondissements of Paris – from Porte de La Chapelle to Porte d’Asnières- and serves a raft of fast-changing communities.

Did you know?

There are more Pandrol clips in service than there are people in Europe. Over three-times the amount to be precise. We have 3 billion clips in use and Europe has a population of around 750 million.
