SD
The Pandrol SD (Safe Driven) range is a durable and reliable threaded rail fastening system, suitable for use across all track applications. Its compact, robust design delivers a lower carbon footprint than other threaded solutions.
What are SD products and how do they work?
Pandrol SD is a threaded rail fastening system developed to increase productivity by providing a clip guidance from the parked position to the in-service position. The design will allow higher productivity during the installation of the track, its optimised geometry increases the contact area between clip and rail, solving the ballast entrapment problem common to W-shape tension clamps, while an improved dowel seal keeps dust and debris out of the sleeper or the slab track.
This geometry supports mechanised rail fastening installation, improving efficiency and reducing cost across installation and maintenance.
Exceptionally high level of electrical insulation, ensuring signal integrity.
Innovative geometry increases the contact area between clip and rail, solving ballast entrapment.
The recent innovation QuickFit is an option available on the SD-RE which allows mechanisation when moving the clip from service position to parked position.
Product benefits
Efficient installation
Clip guidance and automation raise construction speeds and cut labour costs across the system's lifecycle.
Optimised for durability
Tighten-to-contact assembly and high electrical resistance protect the clip from ballast and moisture.
Eco-design
Its lighter, compact design makes Pandrol SD a low carbon rail fastening choice, cutting logistics costs too.
Overview
SD-DEE is optimised for slab track applications and is suitable for mainline, tram and metro networks where a reduction in noise and vibration is of high importance. The composite baseplate allows an important resilience particularly important in urban networks. It carries the same compact, low carbon design as the wider SD family, adapted for use in these track types. This makes it a straightforward choice for urban and metro operators already specifying SD elsewhere on their network.

SD-E is the lightest variant in the SD range, reducing weight by up to 40% compared with other threaded rail fastening products. This makes it easier to handle and install, while retaining the durability and low carbon design of the wider family. It suits networks looking to reduce logistics and handling costs without compromising on performance.

SD-HH is designed for Heavy Haul application, where the design allows an efficient installation. This makes it well suited to projects where speed of installation and ease of use are priorities, without losing the robustness and durability that define the SD range. It's a practical choice for contractors managing tight possession windows or working with less specialised labour.

Overview
SD-HSS is a direct fastening system, developed to fit W-shaped rail seats on precast concrete slab tracks for high-speed lines. Its polyamide baseplate and insulators deliver exceptionally high electrical insulation, while the compact, low carbon design supports automatic installation. Pre-assembled captive components are supplied ready for top-down construction, with low toe load and zero longitudinal restraint (ZLR) configurations available for bridges and viaducts.

SD-RE combines a compact, robust design with a lower carbon footprint than other threaded systems in the range. Its optimised geometry and design allow an easy retrofit to sleepers, allowing networks to easily switch from a legacy SKL system to the SD system improving efficiency and reducing cost during both installation and maintenance. This combination makes SD-RE a low carbon rail fastening option for networks that want to lower their environmental impact without compromising on strength, robustness, or long-term reliability. The SD-RE can be equipped with the innovative QuickFit option that will allow mechanisation for moving the clip from service to parked position, a feature that will further improve the efficiency during rail maintenance operations.

SD-SEE is designed for concrete slab track in tramway and urban rail applications, where light structures and fast construction matter most. Its design supports the rapid build programmes typical of urban transit projects, while maintaining the durability and low weight that define the wider SD range. The SEE composite baseplate allows for improved noise and vibration reduction.

Did you know?
There are more Pandrol clips in service than there are people in Europe. Over three-times the amount to be precise. We have 3 billion clips in use and Europe has a population of around 750 million.
