Shearing
Pandrol's rail shearing machines remove excess weld metal quickly and precisely, protecting your rail profile and cutting outage time. Available in monobloc_battery or bibloc configurations, wide or narrow sizes, with battery, corded, or gas-powered options, they suit a wide range of track access and site conditions.
What are Shearing products and how do they work?
After aluminothermic welding, excess metal remains around the rail head – known as a weld collar. Pandrol's rail shearing machines handle weld collar removal quickly and accurately, leaving the profile ready for grinding. Two hydraulically operated blades, positioned on either side of the weld, close in to shear away the surplus metal in a single, controlled action. Screw adjustments let you set blade height, lateral position and stroke to match the rail profile, while a retractable locking system, fixed under the rail head, keeps each machine steady and prevents it lifting during the cut.
Speak to our rail experts21 metric tons of hydraulic force at 250 bar shears excess weld metal in a single pass.
Five blade types match every vignole rail profile, for an accurate fit every time. A 10mm stellite edge reinforces every Gold blade, for a cutting face that lasts.
A retractable locking system keeps each machine steady and stops it lifting mid-cut.
Product benefits
Accurate weld shearing
Adjustable blades and guiding rollers make every cut precise, so you get consistent results, cut after cut.
Better grinding quality
Leave just 2mm of weld metal above the running surface for a smooth profile that's easy to grind.
Maximised uptime
A quick, powerful cut reduces grinding time and gets your track back in service sooner.
Overview
The EPM2 is a manual shearing machine with a built-in hydraulic hand pump, designed for wide-gap welding processes such as PLA68, WG68 and Head Wash Repair. It delivers 212 kN of shearing force at up to 250 bar without relying on an external power source, making it a dependable option where electrical or battery power isn't

Overview
The EME1 is a compact electrical shearing machine designed for narrow vignole rail applications, including switches and crossings. Adjustable blades and guiding rollers give it the same precision as Pandrol's hydraulic shear, powered instead by an electrical unit. It delivers 212 kN of shearing force at up to 250 bar in a compact frame suited to tight working areas.

Overview
The 05100 is a lightweight, battery-powered shear that runs on a removable Milwaukee drill, delivering zero-emission shearing with lower noise levels on site. At 98 lbs (45.3 kg), it's easy to lift and transport, and a single charge powers more than a dozen welds without any drop in performance. Cast-tipped blades and adjustable hold-down rollers keep the cut accurate across a range of rail sizes.

Overview
The 05100A is a hydraulic weld shear powered by an external hydraulic supply, running at up to 2000 psi (140 bar) and 5 or 10 gpm flow. Self-locking adjustable hold downs and a spring-centred flow control valve give a clean, precisely timed cut, while a built-in shield protects the fittings and hoses in use. At 111 lbs (50.3 kg), it's designed to be easy to carry and position on track.
Overview
The 05000 is a self-contained, manual hydraulic shear with an integrated pump, so no external power source is needed. It shears a weld in around 30 to 45 seconds and can be converted to run from a Pandrol power unit with minor modifications. At 130 lbs (59 kg), it's built to work at up to 3000 psi (206 bar), with adjustable hold-down rollers and cast-tipped blades for a reliable cut across a range of rail sizes.

Overview
These hydraulic rail shearing machines shear away excess weld metal after aluminothermic welding, powered by two lithium HD batteries with no carbon emissions during operation. EMB1 suits narrow applications on vignole rail, including switches and crossings. EMB2 covers wide-gap vignole applications. EMB2 RAG is built for grooved rail. All three deliver 212 kN of shearing force at up to 250 bar.
Overview
These hydraulic shearing machines are powered by a separate hydraulic unit, running on either an electrical motor or a petrol engine. EGH1 suits narrow vignole applications, including switches and crossings. EGH2 covers wide-gap vignole work. EGH2 RAG is built for grooved rail. All three deliver 212 kN of shearing force at up to 250 bar, giving you the choice of power source on site.

Did you know?
There are more Pandrol clips in service than there are people in Europe. Over three-times the amount to be precise. We have 3 billion clips in use and Europe has a population of around 750 million.
