Pandrol is celebrating 18 years of collaboration with Metro Ligero Oeste, the light railway system in Madrid that serves the western suburbs of the city.
Line ML-3, which opened in summer 2007, connects Colonia Jardín and Puerta de Boadilla,. The line spans 13.7 kilometres and features 15 stations, two of which are underground.
Integrated within line ML-3 are our Q Track® embedded rail system and our Floating Slab Mats. The light railway track was designed to minimise noise and vibration to ensure it would not disrupt local residents and nearby buildings, while ensuring safety and meeting the highest environmental standards.
Over the past 18 years the Pandrol system has operated with very little disturbance to residents and has required minimal maintenance. Additionally, the solution enabled CO₂ reduction, primarily achieved through the use of recycled rubber in the Floating Slab Mats and QTrack. Manufactured from 95% recycled materials and fully recyclable, the product supports a truly circular economy
Gregorio Pérez Rodríguez, Director of Facilities Fixed Light Rail West, explains: “We are proud to have served the community of Madrid for 18 years, connecting people and communities through reliable and accessible transport. QTrack® and Floating Slab Mats were a key part of the design of this light rail line. Their durability, low maintenance and environmental benefits have provided a service safe, quiet and sustainable means of transport for millions.”
